When Gyre Price lied her way into this expedition, she thought she’d be mapping mineral deposits, and that her biggest problems would be cave collapses and gear malfunctions. She also thought that the fat paycheck—enough to get her off-planet and on the trail of her mother—meant she’d get a skilled surface team, monitoring her suit and environment, keeping her safe. Keeping her sane.
Instead, she got Em.
Em sees nothing wrong with controlling Gyre’s body with drugs or withholding critical information to “ensure the smooth operation” of her expedition. Em knows all about Gyre’s falsified credentials, and has no qualms using them as a leash—and a lash. And Em has secrets, too …

Starling’s riveting near-future debut depicts an intense psychological battle of wills between two damaged, deeply flawed women who forge an unbreakable connection in the dark … Both women can be messy, cruel, and selfish, and Starling disregards conventional notions of such women seeking or needing absolution. This claustrophobic, horror-leaning tour de force is highly recommended for fans of Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation and Andy Weir’s The Martian.
so uh my book got a STARRED REVIEW IN PUBLISHERS WEEKLY nbd nbd
Do you fucking know how long it takes for me to crochet a single granny square? Jesus fucking Christ, it’s not six months because she’s lazy and taking her time with it. It’s six months because she’s a goddamn badass and worked her fucking ass off to get it done in time for their anniversary.
Hey! Want to hear me talk about my upcoming book, fanfiction, creepy mech suits, NaNoWriMo, and how a cover gets designed? I talked for AN HOUR with the awesome people at S’more Scifi about all that and more! Go listen! I sound halfway smart!
I did call him Jacob Vorhees though, so not like… that smart.
Because of day job and where various writing projects are at (aka TLD being just marketing now but SO MUCH MARKETING PREP…), sometimes it really doesn’t feel like I am An Author, but then I’ll take a morning to sit in my office(!) reorganizing my scrivener file for my second book’s millionth revision pass (but this time I think we’ve got it) while I wait to do an audio test call for my first podcast interview(!!) and it feels real again.
Also the STACK OF PRINT COPIES OF MY BOOK helps a little.
It’s official - THE LUMINOUS DEAD has a cover and is available for pre-order! The book comes out April 2, 2019 and is full of caves, body horror, lesbians, lies, and spooks.

As Gyre descends, little inconsistencies—missing supplies, unexpected changes in the route, and, worst of all, shifts in Em’s motivations—drive her out of her depths. Lost and disoriented, her control giving way to paranoia and anger, Gyre severs her connection with Em and the outside world. On her own in this mysterious, deadly place, surrounded by darkness and the unknown, Gyre must overcome more than just the dangerous terrain and the Tunneler which calls underground its home if she wants to make it out alive—she must confront the ghosts in her own head.
But how come she can’t shake the feeling she’s being followed?
